IMPACT ON DISTRICT SERVICES

  • District services, such as appointments, enrollments, and meal distribution, could be impacted by inclement weather. Staff will do their best to contact families and reschedule any appointments.

Work & Learn From Home - Equipment

  • During inclement weather, staff and students might not be able to access the school buildings. During months when inclement weather is a possibility, students must take their Chromebook, laptop charger, and any materials home daily to ensure that they would be able to participate in remote learning, if necessary.

Scenarios for Bad Weather Days

  • We are prepared for four different scenarios depending on how severe the weather is.

    SCENARIO #1: FULL CLOSURE

Like a traditional snow day, the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø will be closed.  There will be no school for students. Remote learning will not be offered and staff (except for essential personnel) will NOT work. Full snow days will have to be made up later in the school year using the snow make-up days built into the school calendar. In the event that more make-up days are needed than are built into the calendar, additional make-up days may be added to the end of the school year.

A full closure will likely be called on days when severe inclement weather causes loss of power and/or widespread damage or dangerous conditions.

SCENARIO #2: ASYNCHRONOUS REMOTE LEARNING DAY (WORK FROM HOME)

This day will count as a school day, therefore, it will NOT need to be made up later in the year.

Teachers will work from home and post asynchronous work for students on their Google Classrooms.  Teachers will also be available for virtual office hours at scheduled times throughout the day via a Google Meet link or joining code (similar to Zoom) posted on their Google Classrooms.

    SCENARIO #3: TWO-HOUR DELAY

When inclement weather occurs overnight, there may be a need to begin school two-hours later than normal. This gives мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø facilities staff time to clear walkways and parking lots at each school. This delay also gives the City of Reading time to clear and salt roads and sidewalks with less vehicle and foot traffic.

In the event of a two-hour delay, school start times are as follows:

    • Reading High School:   9:30 a.m.

    • RVA 9 - 12 grades will follow their normal schedule and teachers will be available for tutoring following the modified Reading High School schedule.

    • Middle Schools:  10:25 a.m.

No breakfast will be served. Offices will open at 9:00 a.m. All after-school and co-curricular activities will be held.

    SCENARIO #4: EARLY DISMISSAL

When students are already at school and inclement weather starts, there may be a need to dismiss students early. Lunch will be served or students will be offered a Grab and Go lunch (depending on availability). All afterschool and co-curricular activities will be canceled.
